Government pulls pin on $7 GP co-payment
Posted on December 09, 2014

The Federal Government has taken its seven dollar GP co-payment off the table.

The controversial budget measure was strongly opposed by social service providers and Indigenous health organisations, who believed it would lead to a failure to close the life expectancy gap.

It failed it gain enough support to go through parliament.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says a new model encouraging doctors to charge an optional five dollar co-payment will be introduced, but there will be exemptions.
