One fine body…
A group of Indigenous mayors have met with Queensland Premier Campbell Newman to discuss their communities' issues in far north Queensland.
The Cape Indigenous Mayors Alliance spoke to Premier Newman and Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey about local government recognition and the future of the Welfare Reform Trial.
Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council Mayor and Chair of the alliance, Councillor Wayne Butcher, says the meeting was productive and allowed the mayors to talk to the Premier directly.
He says it's important for communities to be able to determine their own futures.
